This is one of the most common questions we get from our customers – and it deserves an honest answer, not a sales pitch.

The short answer

There is no single, universal answer that applies to everyone. Every pregnancy, body and situation is unique – especially in combination with medication, allergies or other conditions.

Our recommendation: always consult your doctor, midwife or another healthcare professional before using a lash serum during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. This applies no matter which brand you are considering.

Why is this even a concern?

The concern around lash serums and pregnancy is mainly about one group of ingredients: prostaglandin analogues. These are synthetic, hormone-like compounds used in many popular lash serums because they deliver fast growth. The downside is documented side effects such as skin pigmentation changes, irritation and, in rare cases, permanent changes to eye colour. During pregnancy and breastfeeding the precautionary principle matters even more, which is why many people choose to avoid this type of serum altogether.

What does prostaglandin-free mean?

A prostaglandin-free serum works through a different mechanism: peptides. WOWBROW's serum is built on peptide technology with clinically tested ingredients that strengthen and nourish the hair follicles – without hormone-like compounds, fragrance, parabens or silicones. All our formulas meet the strict EU/EEA requirements for cosmetics.

Does that mean prostaglandin-free is automatically "approved for pregnancy"? No – and you should be sceptical of brands that claim it is. It means the most debated group of ingredients is not in the product, which is why many people choose peptide-based serums during this stage of life. But the final decision should always be made together with a healthcare professional who knows your situation.

Our advice if you're considering a serum while pregnant or breastfeeding

1

Talk to your doctor or midwife first

Bring the full ingredient list with you so they can assess it based on your situation.

2

Choose prostaglandin-free and fragrance-free

If you agree that a serum is fine for you, go for a peptide-based formula without prostaglandin analogues or fragrance.

3

Read the whole ingredient list and patch test

Always read the complete INCI list, and test the product on a small area of skin before using it on your brows or lashes.

4

It's OK to wait

Your brows and lashes will be perfectly fine without a serum for a few months if you would rather hold off – the serum will be here when you're ready.

Frequently asked questions

Does WOWBROW serum contain prostaglandins?

No. All WOWBROW serums are 100% prostaglandin-free and use peptide technology instead.

Can I use the serum right after giving birth if I'm not breastfeeding?

Here too: check with a healthcare professional. Hormonal changes affect hair growth in the months after birth regardless, so results may vary during this period.

Where can I find the full ingredient list?

On every product page – see for example Brow & Lash Serum. Feel free to bring the list to your doctor or midwife.
